LABOR Day Weekend

September 5th, 2007 by Ellie

Hi Everyone! I hope your weekend was as great as ours! On Friday night we got together with some friends for a BBQ. We had it at one of our friends former apartment complexes (to which he still has a key to the pool!). The pool area was amazing- it overlooks a beautiful valley with great views of the hill country. Right as we were getting ready to start grilling, a huge storm rolled in. I couldn’t believe the wind that preceded the rain- it even blew around the patio chairs! Luckily there was a covered area so we just hung out under it until the storm blew through. The burgers turned out great and the company was even better.

On Saturday Eric and I kidnapped Amelia so her parents could do some car shopping. Eric was in desperate need of some new clothes, so we headed down to the outlets. Our first stop was the Ralph Lauren store (I had a 20% off coupon) and we actually didn’t need to go anywhere else. I am so jealous of Eric with all of his new polo clothes! I’m supposed to be the preppy one (in my richest dreams, for now I just shop at Dress Barn haha). This may be surprising to some of you, but Eric put in his two week notice last Monday. Without going into too much detail, his new job is a great opportunity for our family- more money and more time at home, so he really needed the new clothes since his new job won’t be as casual as his old one.

Saturday afternoon we went to a tailgate party near the stadium. It was amazing- a sea of burnt orange. A UT tailgate is the epitome of the college experience. For those of us who went to UCI, the team spirit displayed here is unfathomable. Have I mentioned that UT attire is acceptable clothing for any event? You could wear UT flip flops to church and it would be no big deal. Hilarious.

I had big pans for Sunday and Monday: finish the garden in the front yard, and repaint the family room (again, again). I went to Home Depot and loaded up on everything that I would need for both projects. As soon as I pulled into the drive way, God helped me decide which one to start on- it started pouring rain! So all of Sunday and Monday were spent taping, priming, edging and painting our family room (sage this time). I completed the first coat last night, and then all I need to do is the second coat tonight and I am done! (Unless of course I decide I can’t live with this color either, haha, just kidding, I hope).

On Monday evening we met some friends at the Incubus concert at The Backyard. It was AWESOME! So many of their songs remind us of the beginning of our relationship when we were still living in the dorms, so it was really fun.

Hopefully I can get to the yard work sometime this week (if it would stop raining!)- I have 8 bags of mulch stinking up my car!! I will post pictures of the garden and the new family room as soon as I am done. The garden is coming along very well. I put in some canna lilies, so it looks a little bit tropical and unique, I love it!

Well, I hope you all have a great rest of the week. What’s the second best thing about a three day weekend? A four day work week!
