2nd Wedding Anniversary

For our second wedding anniversary, we thought what better way to celebrate than a trip to “Sin City?!” We decided to start trying for a flight on Friday night- and got the first one out to Dallas. From there, we didn’t make the first flight we tried, which was ok, because another couple didn’t make it either and decided to give up trying. Why is that ok, you ask? Because they ended up giving us their hotel room (pre-paid!) for that evening! Since we had decided not to make any hotel reservations for the trip, this worked out perfectly for us. The hotel was in downtown Vegas, so we spent our first night cruising around the different hotels on Freemont Street. I’m not a huge fan of downtown, but it was fun to just be in VEGAS! The next day we took a bus to the strip and checked in to the Excalibur. We stayed in one of their newly remodeled rooms, and it looked great. Very modern. We played poker for a little while and ended up having a late dinner in their cafe. After dinner we played some slots and then went to bed.

The next morning we went to the famous Sunday Champagne Brunch. Because the food wasn’t very good this time, we felt like we needed to drink our dollars worth. Let me just say that it didn’t take long before we were both sporting major headaches! Somehow we managed to pack up and check out and head over to the MGM. Once checked in we took a little nap to try to sleep off the headache, but when that didn’t work we decided to suck it up and go and lay out by the pool. After cruising down the lazy river for a while we started to feel better, so we went back inside to play more poker. After several hours we were too tired to continue playing, so we took our winnings (at this point we were up about $60) and went and ate McDonald’s in bed.
On Monday we pretty much gambled all day and then went to PF Changes to celebrate our anniversary. We toyed with the idea of going to a show, but we couldn’t really decide which one to go to. We ended up deciding to stay up all night (our flight was at 6 am) rather than attempting to sleep for a few hours and then possibly sleeping through our first flight (that happened last time we were in Vegas!). When the morning finally came we had lost some of our money and were ready to come home. Luckily we easily made the flights back and we were saying “howdy” to Austin by 12:30 Tuesday.
It was a great trip, all-in-all. I think we both agreed that it was about one day too long. After a while you get sick of seeing things like moms with young babies in strollers sitting at the slots in the casinos. Don’t these mothers know that all the smoke is probably not good for a baby?!
Anyhow, it was another great year of married life. This year seemed to go by faster than the first, even though there weren’t nearly as many changes. We are loving our life in Austin and couldn’t really ask for anything more. Check out our second anniversary card in the photos section that was written at our rehearsal dinner. It is from one of my bridesmaids who I have known since we were both 9 years old. Thank you Sarah, we love you!
