Kelly meets Texas
It seems our blog is turning into a bunch of weekend recaps, and this entry is no different! This past weekend one of my oldest and dearest friends, Kelly, came to visit us.
It was so nice to get to spend some actual time with her, as opposed to the short few-hour visits like the ones we have had over the past 7 years since graduating high school.
On Friday night we went to the Alamo Drafthouse to watch Pirates 3. There were a lot of slow parts (Eric even fell asleep!) but overall it was entertaining.
On Saturday, a big group of us went south to San Marcos to go tubing. It was a new river to all of us, so we weren’t quite prepared for some of the rapids. Unfortunately Kelly got the worst of it, but all in all it was a very successful tube. After we got back from the river we all showered up and then headed over to the Parker’s to hang out. It was a great time- especially when Kelly and I beat the boys at horseshoes. Who would have guessed that could happen?!
Sunday was a more mellow day, spent eating BBQ (Salt Lick, of course!), running errands, and going on a quick walk through the greenbelt in our neighborhood. All weekend we kept lamenting that it was too bad Kelly wouldn’t get to experience a big Texas thunderstorm, and it turns out someone was listening! As we cooled off in the pool, we could see a huge blanket of blackness heading our way. Not long after we got home from the pool, we were hit with the biggest electrical storm we have seen so far. The news said there were 3,500 lightening strikes in an hour! It was odd, though- the radar showed the storm right over us, and there was lightening all around us, but there were really only one or two large thunderclaps. The rest of the noise was wind. You’d just expect there to be boom after boom with that much lightening. Hmm, oh well….
Anyway it was a great weekend and we hope Kelly had as much fun as we did.
This week is a busy one- on Saturday we are hosting a murder mystery party for 20+ of our friends, so I am running around trying to get everything ready. As usual I have grand plans (probably too much, as always) so I may have to cut some things to save time. Luckily I am going to try not to cook anything- the food is Great Gatsby inspired, so in that tradition the spread is supposed to look very impressive. Ham, turkey, potatoes, asparagus etc. I am so not going to try to cook that all myself! We are going to turn the dining room into a casino, and then put up lanterns to create a room out back, so check back on Sunday for pictures of the event. Since it is set in the 1920’s it should be pretty fun to see everyone’s costumes.
Tonight we are going to a class offered at Sarah and Jason’s church for people who are becoming god parents. I am really looking forward to it. Finding a church that we really love is one thing Eric and I have not accomplished since moving to Texas. Since the Coleman’s really love this church, hopefully it will speak to us too.
Have a Happy Tuesday!
