Vacation

Well we are back at home trying to get into the swing of things again after our wonderfully relaxing vacation! It has been very hard (at least for me) but after the trip we had- who would want to go back to work???
We spent the week laying in hammocks, relaxing on the beach, reading, snorkeling and climbing Mayan ruins. We ended up staying at four different cabanas, which actually made it kind of fun.
There are about 30 different places along the beach in Tulum, and they are all different and special in their own ways. One had the most beautiful beach we have ever seen, but was located far down in the jungle. Another one was centrally located and a bit louder, but closer to really tasty restaurants.
We ended up renting a car so we were able to go inland farther into the jungle to tour some amazing Mayan ruins. We even climbed the tallest pyramid in the Yucatan.
Having our own car gave us a lot of freedom, so we took advantage of it! We ate in town several times (which from where we were staying was about a $7 taxi ride each way- a little expensive) and we also drove up the coast and snorkeled in a beautiful lagoon. We took pictures with an underwater camera, but when we got them developed somehow water had seeped in! Totally defeated the purpose, but oh well. We took mental pictures! There were some amazing fish- dark blue ones and some that even looked like a rainbow. Totally cool.
We pretty much spent every day reading and enjoying each other’s company. It was great! Do you recall the post about Tulum that we wrote way back in August of 2005 from our honeymoon? Well, thankfully the weather was really nice this time and the heat was never really an issue. The one night that we stayed at Cabanas La Conchita (where we honeymooned, awwww) there was a scorpion in our room! Even though [we learned] they aren’t poisonous, I was still squeamish so I insisted on sleeping under the mosquito net. Besides that, we had no problems with bugs or bug bites. There was a tarantula on the wall at one of the restaurants, but we weren’t bothered by it.
When we flew back into Dallas a storm kept us from getting out, and guess who else was stranded?! Eric’s parents! We ended up renting a car with them and drove down to Austin. Unfortunately for them the flights were actually worse from Austin, so they spent almost 2 full days in the airport before flying back to Dallas and catching a flight to Orange County. It was unlucky for them, but lucky for us because we had a nice little rendezvous.
We will try to get some pictures of our trip up asap. I’ll add it to Eric’s list of pictures he needs to post! What else did I promise you- the house? Yes, I’ll definitely have to get him to do that! Take care!
