Sad day for Eric and “Shikata”
Hello everyone! Sorry we haven’t posted in a while. The only exciting thing to happen recently is something we aren’t at liberty to report yet. But let me assure you- something very exciting is in the works! (People! Don’t get excited, we already said no babies for us yet. You’re just going to have to wait to find out what it is!)
Hehehehe, now that I have you all wondering, I guess I’ll fill you in on everything else that’s been going on. Ok, yes, it is very hot. I think we have had something like 20 days in a row that have been over 100 degrees (my stats might be a little off, but I thought I heard that on the radio.) Luckily on a daily basis there really is no need to be outside any longer than the time it takes to walk to your car/to your office/ in the house. Unfortunately on the weekends there is always something that needs to be done outside. Thankfully Eric has proudly taken on the duty of mowing the lawn (which he is trying to do every weekend- wow!) so all I am really responsible for is weeding the garden and sweeping after Eric edges. (Let me just tell you, though- I sooo do not have a green thumb! I think it is time to get professional help for our garden, it is seriously ugly! The flowers I planted after the deer debacle have totally taken over so now practically every weekend I have to trim them back- with scissors, no less!) Oh yea, back to the heat- so yes, it is utterly miserable when doing yard work. The funny thing is that it’s not like you can wake up early to beat the heat- it was 80 degrees already when I was driving to work at 7:30 a.m. this morning! Also, the hottest part of the day is between 3-6 here, wasn’t it more in the middle of the day in California?
On Saturday Eric and I worked on our office and finally got it sum what organized. Eric put up this really cool tinted film on the windows to help block out the morning sun that it gets. It really is a beautiful window in that room, so I am glad we didn’t have to cover it with blinds. All in all it is looking really good, for an office.
Anyhow, yesterday Eric and I were working in the garage when Reese got out and started running around like a crazy dog. Our (brand new) neighbor had just come out of her house and of course Reese ran right over to her. I had to run over and grab her (not an easy task!) with sweat dripping down my face. Totally not the way I wanted to meet our neighbor for the first time. “Uh yea, Hi, I’m your sweaty neighbor with a crazy dog that we can’t control, nice to meet you.” Sam- I had so planned on being really cliche and making her cookies and bringing them over. The meeting was going to go more like “Oh yes, Hello, I am your friendly neighbor who is an excellent baker, nice to meet you.” :) Luckily it was a good way to break the ice. Thanks Reese!
Eric, I’m sorry to do this but it must be told. Everyone who reads this blog loves you and loves to share in the special events in our life. Before I continue, I must remind everyone of the time when Eric bowled a 212. Amazing display of athletic skill, right? Ok, so yesterday Eric participated in an Austin Table Tennis Club (ping pong to us amateurs) tournament and got his a$$ handed to him. Why is this so interesting you ask? Because he was beaten by an 8 year old! Pictures to follow……Eric, please feel free to comment :) (Shikata is the name of his paddle. Yes, all of his coworkers have named their paddles- just to show you how serious they are)
P.S. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY SARAH AND JASON!
