Let me tell you about Ararat

March 24th, 2006 by Eric

Our good friends Nick and Emily (a.k.a. “the Parkers”) let us in on a little secret recently and we’d like to share it with you.

Come in closer…

you listening?

ARARAT! The best dining experience in Austin (Perhaps you can qualify this statement because we just moved here a few months ago. On the other hand, they don’t call me The Mayor for nothing. But then again “they” are an odd breed? Just kidding fellas.)

Here is the short list of what makes this Middle Eastern food place great:

  • BYOB! Save money on wine, buy more sizzling lamb.
  • Awesome atmosphere! Rugs on the wall, tiny place with about 10 tables, awesome outdoor area, candles, low ceilings
  • Belly Dancers! Gotta love the live entertainment
  • Great Food! I’ve saved the best for last. I can’t spell the food we ate (except for pita and hummus) but it was awesome.

Add good company (the forementioned Parkers) and this place is just awesome. We went there a few weeks ago and it was rad and we are looking forward to coming again.

If you are going to be in town and love or are interested in trying Middle Eastern food, you’re eating here with us.

    eric,

so yeah, i am still going to school at calpoly pomona. it has taken so long because i had switched majors almost every year my first 3 years and i am finally settled into english literature. i am trying to get my collection of poems published with little success, but i’m still truckin’. other than that, i am working with the los alamitos school district at a little elementary school in rossmoor called weaver. i work with their special education development center (sdc, don’t ask i don’t get it either). specifically, i do 1-on-1 with a 3 or 4-year-old child who has autism. they’re little things; it’s great. other than that, not much. i am still living at home and trying to get out all of the adolescence and immaturity that storms within me, and boy is it raging! hah! i still see some friends every once in a while, but i usually only see people b/c i go to watch matt edwall’s new band, this love machine or mark’s kissing tigers. that’s about it. i guess i’m just really trying to get out as much as i can from the temporary state of stress-free living that i’m doing. i dunno, gettin’ laid every once in a while. just having fun, but reading and writing a lot in the midst. i really have my heart setting on writing the great american novel, but i don’t know. there’s got to be a lot of growth and security for that and it’s hard to balance ideals and reality. once i graduate this summer, i’ll have more time to work with the kids and really devote myself to that and possibly after a year pursue my masters in english creative writing.

either way, i’m looking forward to the journey. i guess as we all should. anyhow, that’s about it in a nutshell. so yeah, next time you come out, seriously, hit me up, and i should be able to get away to hit the strip or downtown for a solid night or two, but no praying, cause that won’t do a thing in the the city of sin.

    2!

I would add Pharoah’s to the list of restaurants to check out, very similar in all aspects, except the decor, which is a little guadier.
