We Love Our House Sooooo Much!

February 13th, 2006 by Ellie

Haha, now that all the dramarama is winding down, here’s the kind of post we promised about our new house:

We love it sooooo much! Finally on Saturday morning we had the motivation and energy to actually start unpacking boxes and making it our home. So far it is looking pretty good (see pictures). It is so weird how it is starting to sink in that this is actually our home.! It is way more beautiful than anything we could have ever dreamed of. For the past 5 years we have been moving from one place to another, never really settling in because it was only a matter of months until the next move. This time, we know we are going to be here for a long time, so unpacking feels really different. It’s like we are trying to find the perfect place for everything because we know it is going to be there for a long time. Every box we unpack is very deliberate. So far my favorite room is our family room. It’s pretty cozy with the fire place and I can just see us spending hundreds of happy nights there. This week we are really going to focus on the guest room because our first guests are coming this weekend- my parents!! It will be so wonderful to be able to share it with them, I can’t wait!

We haven’t met any of the neighbors yet, but so far I have seen at least 5 little girls on the street (no boys, though.) The family next to ours moved in on Saturday and has two little girls. The house on the other side hasn’t moved in yet, but we saw that the owners have California license plates, so that’s pretty cool!

MY BIRTHDAY:
I had one of the most wonderful birthdays! On Friday, I went to WholeFoods Grocery Store and picked up a mish-mash of yummy foods. When Eric got home we ate dinner sitting at the bar area of our kitchen, drank wine, and talked for hours. It was so great! After dinner we watched the opening ceremony of the Olympics (it could have been better, in my humble opinion) and snuggled on the couch. Then on Saturday, we unpacked while waiting for our new refrigerator to arrive. Once it did, we packed up and headed down to San Antonio for our couple’s massage, which was very relaxing! After the massage we checked into our hotel and walked over to the Riverwalk for our dinner reservations. We ate at this hole in the wall (literally!) place called Dolores Del Rio which was right along the river. The restaurant was so cool- it has low ceilings with exposed wood beams and a Mardi Gras flare. Eric and I sat there for at least two hours eating the delicious food, drinking wine, talking and enjoying the live jazz band and belly dancer. It was seriously one of the best times that we have ever had!

On Sunday, we ate lunch at the famous mexican restaurant Mi Tierra and then headed back to Austin. We were going to go to the opera in San Antonio, but we decided that we wanted to get back to our beautiful home! The rest of the day was spent catching up on the olympics and doing various things around the house. All-in-all it was one of my best birthday’s ever! Thank you to my wonderful husband for making it so special!
