Last Day at Work

November 8th, 2005 by Ellie

I can’t believe it’s here, but today is our last day of work. Eric and I are so lucky to have had jobs that we loved, so it makes today even harder. Everyone at The Irvine Company has been really supportive- they even took me out for drinks last night and gave me a really cute hat and belt buckle! All last week Eric had lunch dates with his co-workers, so we are definitely feeling loved.

On Sunday night, Eric’s parents threw us a going away party, complete with cowboy hats and boot confetti! It was really nice to see everyone, but reminded us how bitter-sweet this move is. These past few weeks have felt like a roller coaster- sometimes I feel so sad about leaving everything we know behind, and then sometimes I feel super excited about all of the great things that we will be able to accomplish in Austin that just aren’t possible here. I guess that’s to be expected when making such life-altering decisions!

We have slowly started to say goodbye to everyone- two weekends ago Sarah and Jason had their Murder Mystery party so we were able to bid farewell to that group of friends. While I’m on the subject, it was sooo fun! The Coleman’s always put on great parties, but add in costumes and fake characters, and you can imagine the hilarity (especially when Gary had to play two different characters- he is such a hoot!)

The rest of this week is booked solid with goodbye dinners. I don’t know if all of you already know this, but I HATE GOODBYES!! I would rather slip away than have to go through the saddness of saying goodbye, so this is going to be a hard week for me. Luckily, everyone is only a phone call away, so I know we will all stay in touch.

Well, the next post will probably be from Austin, so wish us luck! I have already started a “top 10 reasons why Austin rules” list, so keep checking back (it involves u-turns and BBQ, how can you not be excited for that?!)…
