Vegas, baby!

Well, after being back from the honeymoon for just about two weeks, Eric and I felt it was time for a mini-break!! Getting back to work has been hard, so a little trip was just what we needed!

We left OC at around 4:00 p.m. and arrived in Vegas at 9:30 p.m. lucky enough to have avoided most of the dreaded 91 freeway traffic. For a holiday weekend, Las Vegas sure didn’t seem that busy. That first night we played a little poker and were off to a good start- we were up $170 by the time we went to bed! Of course, we were very proud of ourselves and thought “Ha Vegas, we’ll get you this time!!”

On Saturday we had a two-for-one buffet (gotta love Excalibur coupons!) and went back to conquer the poker table once more. Unfortunately, a few hours later we walked away defeated, having lost all of our winnings. We weren’t sad for long, though- oh no, we were in VEGAS!! After touring the strip a little and visiting the new Wynn hotel, we went back to the Excalibur to play some slots. Over the past few years, Eric and I have perfected the art of playing nickle video poker to get free drinks. So we played and drank for a while, and then stumbled off to the most exciting event of our trip- The Tournament of Kings. This is a medieval times-type show where you eat your dinner with your hands (because in the middle ages people didn’t have utensiles, but I guess it turns out they had Pepsi). The crowd is divided up into countries and each country has a king that participates in the duel. Our king, the king of Spain, was a very Fabio-ish looking lad with long flowing blond hair and a cocky smile. We sat next to a really nice family from Montana that had us both considering a change in career- we could totally be cattle ranchers, right?! In the end Spain did not win but we had tons of fun anyways.

On Sunday we had another yummy buffet (again, this was Vegas!) and went back again to the poker table to try to win our money back. After many hours of ups and downs, we left Vegas only slightly down. All in all, it was a very fun and much needed mini break.
